Wespath, recognized as a 2017-2023 Chicago's Best and Brightest Companies to Work For and a 2018-2023 National Best and Brightest Companies to Work For, has an opportunity for a Staff Accountant that is responsible for efficiently and accurately recording and analyzing the financial transactions of the organization within Accounting and Finance department standards and in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). More specifically, as a Staff Accountant you will: Record financial transactions of the organization in accordance with GAAP and departmental accounting policies. Perform daily cash management reconciliations / roll forwards of all activity such as receipts and disbursements. Analyze and reconcile Wespath accounts with a focus on the bank accounts as it relates to cash on the operating and non-operating funds on the general ledger. Collaborate with Wespath's non-custodial bank in researching variances to the General Ledger and subsystems. Analyze and reconcile the financial transactions of back-office systems including learning and maintaining the mapping table that converts subsystem data to the general ledger. Reconcile subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger including reconciling interfaces between subsidiary systems to the general ledger. Perform and maintain daily Sub Ledger Report balancing as it relates to participants, institutional investors, and reserves, and the funds in which they are invested. Maintain prepaid expense accounts and records. Maintain accounting for the life insurance program with the third-party vendor and other areas within Wespath regarding the quarterly billing, weekly collection of contributions, weekly funding, daily journal entry support, delinquency tracking, and refunds request coordination. Analyze and reconcile the benefits overpayment accounts receivable as it relates to the overpayment policy and the various related general ledger accounts. Assist in the preparation of year-end Annual Report and the SOC1 Report. Prepare audit schedules and work papers as required by the internal/external auditors. Respond to internal and external inquiries and issues. Participate in or lead efforts to develop, document, implement and monitor policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, best practices for employee benefit plans, etc. Cross-train on various responsibilities within department to provide backup coverage. Proactively identify and address problems and/or concerns as they arise. P erform other duties as assigned. The compensation range for this position is $79,000 - $87,000 with a bonus opportunity and customary benefits. Final compensation will be set based on the hired applicant's qualifications (education, training, and/or experience related to this role), and as such, may fall outside the range shown #LI-CW1 #LI-hybrid Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience. Three or more years of relevant accounting experience including sound understanding of accounting principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (including Word, Access, Outlook, and expert Excel skills) and accounting software. Preferred Qualifications Prior financial service industry experience with a concentration on bank reconciliation software systems.
