Job Description:Under the direct supervision of the Director for Piano and Keyboard Services, the Piano Technician I is responsible for the implementation and delivery of specialized acoustic piano and keyboard services for the Boston campus. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Functional/Technical: Is responsible for executing the maintenance of piano and keyboard technological services that effectively meet the college's needs. Is responsible for consulting with college faculty, staff, and students on troubleshooting issues with college pianos and digital keyboards, and recommending the most suitable solutions. Providing specialized piano repair services including but not limited to: tuning, voicing, regulation, repairs, piano action refurbishing, preventative maintenance, and other duties as seen fit. Maintaining a schedule of work, including nights and weekends as needed, to meet completion dates and technical specifications of college acoustic and digital pianos. Accountable for service and performance conditions on instruments for teaching studios, classrooms, ensemble rooms, and practice rooms. Exercise autonomous judgment with respect to his/her acoustical/technical skills and knowledge as well as daily decision-making strategies. Addresses student/faculty piano and keyboard concerns. Responsible for maintaining an accurate and up to date database of their daily work. Responsible for implementing, installing and maintaining piano climate control systems. Assists in the supervision of acoustic and digital piano moves. Teamwork : Promotes a positive and professional work environment. Maintain professionalism with college personnel and students. Works cooperatively with institutional colleagues towards providing required services. Works cooperatively with institutional colleagues, including but not limited to: Concert Operations, Professional Writing & Technology Division, Music Education, Music Therapy, Institutional Advancement, Academic Affairs, Music Production and Engineering. Adhere to all published guidelines. Perform other duties as assigned. May be required to work additional hours in emergency, critical, or unusual circumstances. Professional Development: Expected to stay current with existing and emerging music technologies, especially those that might benefit the academic experience at Berklee Maintains technical certifications as required of the position Participate in required training for both technical and interpersonal skills. Stay committed to actively enhancing skills in pursuing professional development. MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated piano technician experience. Bachelor Degree preferred. Piano Technicians Guild Associate Piano Technician Certification preferred. Understanding of music, musical terms, and notation. Strong interpersonal skills to understand the broad range of needs and various requirements for delivering excellent customer service. Demonstrated knowledge of a wide range of administrative software products in an Apple environment Demonstrated knowledge of, and proficiency with use of electronic piano tuning software (Reyburn, Sanderson, Tunelab, Piano Analyzer). The ability to work independently and under pressure to meet necessary deadlines. Commitment to exemplary customer service; strong customer service skills including rapid response time, appropriate and timely escalation and incident resolution, and appropriate follow-up skills.
