R&D Cable Design Engineer We are seeking highly motivated contract R&D engineers to support cables design on a major secure transportation program for the US Government. On any given day, you may be called on to: Provide innovative cables design solutions towards system-level full design release. Engage on a cross-discipline team to achieve delivery of the fully functional final development build trailer and the eventual First Production Unit (FPU) and to meet program deliverable commitments. Collaborate with the system/subsystems and module design teams team to confirm architecture and design implementation. Engage with production agency counterparts for transition-to-production planning and readiness. Potential minimal travel as required to support program efforts. Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Qualifications We Require Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other engineering field plus one (1) year relevant experience; OR Bachelor's degree as stated above plus five (5) years' relevant experience. Experience in cable design. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance. Qualifications We Desire Experience with some of the following: Interdisciplinary cable / interconnects design. Hardware product development lifecycle. System interconnects architecture definition/implementation. CAD/drafting programs (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Creo, or similar). Circuit analysis related to interconnects design (signal integrity, circuit derating, impedance, etc.). Project management experience including responsibilities for schedule, budget and risk management. Mature problem-solving, collaboration skills, and an ability to take broad direction and execute technical and programmatic features of the program without detailed guidance or supervision. A strong dedication to a positive teaming environment, strong written and verbal skills, detail oriented approach, and a keen focus on customer service. Active DOE L or Q security clearance, or equivalent. About Our Team The Transporter Systems Development department is responsible for executing the multi-year development effort for the next generation secure transportation solution from conceptual design to production. The department works with multiple internal and external organizations and the US government customer to plan and successfully execute the program. Members of the Transporter Systems Development department are responsible for providing the technical, programmatic and systems engineering leadership for all aspects of the multi-disciplinary development effort. Security Clearance Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted. Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance.
